Catarina is a researcher specialist in the ecology of tropical forests. She has special interest in forest regrowth and ecological restoration and their drivers. Her research focuses on understanding what drives the variation in regrowth rates, diversity and species composition of secondary forests in the tropics, especially in the Atlantic Forest, Amazon and other Neotropical regions. To understand the complexity of forest regrowth and restoration she combines information from ecological surveys, local ecological knowledge as well as remote sensing and modelling. Catarina is currently a postdoc at Wageningen University, the Netherlands.
